Poor Kanye West today announced he was $53 million in debt so I decided it might be wise to give him some saving tips.
1 - Own brand cereal
So Kanye, one best kept secret is that some cereal brands rebox their own cereal for supermarkets so they can sell it as their own brand offering instead. I can imagine huge swathes of the $53 million of debt are because you bought name brand Weetabix rather than the Tesco offering. With this little tip I can see you cutting your debt in half.
2 - Do I need this?
Next time you're looking at a huge yacht ask yourself, "Do I need this?" or "Would I use it?". You might have a strong, almost uncontrollable desire to buy it, but will it sit unused and unloved with your other yachts after the initial excitement has died down?
3- Dead Mystery Relatives
Next time you get an email saying that an unknown person has died and left you millions, I would advise caution. There are these emails known as "spam" emails where they send the same email out to thousands of people in the hope one will bite. There are usually clues in these messages such as constant references to being blessed by god and severe spelling errors, these are things you would not normally see in a piece of legal documentation. These mails are a con. No matter how many times you pay the "clearance fees" your money will never come. Before you respond to them, have a quick read through.
4 - Bike to work
Occasionally instead of wasting a ton of petrol (sorry - gasoline) in your gigantic SUV, why not jump on a bike and ride instead. You'll be surprised at how much you'll save, in a week, maybe enough to have a debt less than a small island nation.
5 - Stop using money as actual full-on firewood
I get it.. I do, it's cold in your house, I mean it's big... It would be. However, rather than simply putting piles of cash into the hearth and burning it, why not invest in central heating or buy firewood? It's considerably cheaper in the long run and I think you'll find, easier on the lungs too.
So there we go.. Five simple tips to reduce your $53 million debt. No need to thank me, the only thanks I need are the feeling of a job well done.
